Arrive in Datong and meet your guide at the airport or railway station. Check in to your hotel, then visit Huayan Temple, a magnificent Liao and Jin dynasty Buddhist temple known for its exquisite painted sculptures and grand wooden architecture. Walk along the well-restored Datong Ancient City Wall for panoramic views of the old town. In the evening, stroll through the ancient city streets and taste local Shanxi cuisine.
After breakfast, drive to the UNESCO-listed Yungang Grottoes, one of China's three major Buddhist grotto sites. Explore the 1,500-year-old rock-cut caves with thousands of Buddha statues carved during the Northern Wei Dynasty, admiring the fusion of Chinese and Central Asian art styles. Continue to Mount Heng to visit the iconic Hanging Temple, a 1,400-year-old architectural marvel clinging to a cliff face. Return to Datong city in the evening.
Morning drive to Yingxian County to visit the Fogong Temple Pagoda, commonly known as Yingxian Wooden Pagoda.
